Our Own gene Dennis was our speaker. He admitted being a Hodophile – one who loves to travel, and shared some of his favorite places on the planet with us. He and his lovely bride have traveled to 84 countries so far on all seven continents – yes, even including Antarctica! In fact, he said his absolute favorite place to visit was the frozen continent at the south pole. “If you stand still too long near the shore, the penguins will walk across your feet!” according to Gene.
Gene presented us with some of his best travel tips, including:
Lay all the clothes you want to take on your trip and all the money you think you’ll need for the trip on your bed. Then pack half the clothes and twice the money!
Never pass a restroom without stopping.
Heading WAY north, to Alaska, Gene said that if you visit, be sure to go inland. The edges are lovely and interesting, but inland worth the trip! When in Alaska
he met Jack Reakoff who has lived off the grid for 35 in Wiseman, Alaska.
We also heard about the wonderful culture and peoples of Southeast Asia. According to Gene, everywhere is on his bucket list of travel destinations. He quoted St. Augustine who said “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
Here’s hoping you get to read many pages!
