And just like that, the Rotary year is done. President Nick Godlesky conducted his last full meeting in that role. The 2026-27 club budget was presented by Treasurer Becky Millsap. The budget, which was approved without opposition, will use some previously budgeted but unspent funds to cover the costs of President-Elect Training and District Conference attendance. The other notable item was that the revenue side of the budget calls for a $3,000 fundraising activity. Importantly, member participation will be needed to ensure the event (which has not yet been announced) is a success.
President-Elect Domonique Clemons then got down to the important business: the roast. The "Late Night-" style tribute featured interviews, rarely-before seen footage (what was Nick doing with that cat?), heartfelt thanks, and a memorable rap performance by the Four-Way Testers that quoted Nick's catchphrase, "Whatcha got?" It rounded out a year of good natured fun for the Rotary Club of Flint. Thank you, President Nick!

Happy 4th of July!
This Saturday is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It is a chance to consider the many ways our country has worked to form a more perfect union and strive live out the promise of liberty and justice for all. Here are three historical references to the 4th of July and related symbols of patriotism. They are:
"The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus (poem inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty- 1883)
This week, feel free to read them and consider the variety of perspectives they contain. Some reflection questions to consider include:
What feelings arose for you in reading each of the texts? What does your reaction lead you to think about?
What vision did each author have about what it meant to be American?
What perspectives do you relate to? Which ones feel harder for you to connect with?
How might the authors' life experiences shape what the 4th of July means to them? How might that carry through to today?

District 7 clubs will once again be staffing the water station and intersections along our section of the Crim Festival of Races on Saturday, August 22. We are getting an early start on recruitment-- please sign up to volunteer! It starts with a fabulous breakfast at Mike Chaffee's at 6 am and you will be done before noon. It's a great way to be part of one of Flint's premiere events as you enjoy some Rotarian fellowship.
