November 20 is marked as Transgender Day of Remembrance. People who are trans face a world that is too often hostile to their existence. This day was established in 1998 as a way to honor Rita Hester, a trans woman who was murdered. It is also an opportunity to stand in solidarity with people who are trans and non-binary and commit to creating a world where they can safely be themselves.
